Please note that building work taking place in the Lanesborough wing corridor this Saturday morning will mean a high level of noise in the Computer Rooms. Users may wish to avoid visiting the library to use the computer rooms at this time.

From Saturday 11th July Group discussion room 1 will be out of use. The other 3 rooms remain open and are bookable for up to 2 hours at a time.
Please note that the far away entrance to the silent study area (located beside group discussion rooms) will also be out of use during the forthcomingrefurbishment period. Please use the other entrance.
July 10, 2009
In preparation for the refurbishment work starting next week office furniture from the front of the library needs to be removed and stored. This work will be carried out on Saturday morning (11th July) and as a result the library may be a little noisier than usual. We will try to keep disruption to a minimum but please bear this in mind before you visit.
July 8, 2009
The new entry card access entry system will be introduced over the next few weeks.
During the day there will be little change as all routes to the library are open.
Out of hours users should be aware that in order to acess the library after 5pm and over weekends you must have an active library membership.
The route to the library at these times will be via proximity scanner that reads the BARCODE on your ID card (the number we use as your library ID) without an active barcode the doosr will not open. There are barcode scanners at the door from Grosvenor to Hunter Wing (by the bank), at the bottom of the stairs and at the top of the stairs and also for CR1.
Readers need to hold their cards under the scanner -about 2 inches away so that the multiple beams cover the barcode. If the
reader has a current library registration they will be allowed through regardless of status. If they are not registered the light will stay red.
If you are a remote user please ensure you have a library membership number and that it is active before visiting the library at these times. If you are unsure contact the library (0208 725 5466) for further information.

The Department of Health is funding access for Medical Schools and Acute NHS Trusts in England to the Transplant Library for one year from April 2009. It is the bibliographic database of the Centre for Evidence in Transplantation (CET), the Royal College of Surgeons of England (RCS), and the London School of Hygiene & Tropical Medicine (LSHTM).
The Transplant Library contains evidence-based information on all aspects of solid organ transplantation. The CET uses a customised literature search in the Ovid-Medline and Cochrane Central bibliographic databases to retrieve relevant transplantation records. Additional information is manually added to each record, based on certain indexing criteria.
The database consists of over 6,000 references of randomised controlled trials (RCTs) published from 1970 to the present; Systematic reviews and meta-analyses are scheduled to be added in 2009. Quality rating of methodology is available for most trials published since 2004. The database also includes non-indexed literature, such as conference proceedings, and, where possible, records of unpublished trials. Many of the records in the database contain abstracts and/or links to full text.
How do I access it?
St. George’s Hospital staff can access the Transplant Library either:
- via Ovid Online
- via the Library website > Databases > Medicine & Dentistry
You will need log in using your NHS Athens username/password.
