Clinical Knowledge Summaries- new topics and updates


7 new topics have been added to and 12 topics have been updated on the NHS Clinical Knowledge Summaries (CKS) during March 2011. CKS is a source of evidence-based information and practical ‘know how’ about the common conditions managed in primary care. It is aimed at healthcare professionals working in primary and first-contact care. The new topics are:
– Bruising (new)
– Chest pain (new)
– Contraception – emergency
– Meningitis (bacterial)/meningococcal septicaemia (new)
– Osteoporosis – prevention of fragility fractures (new)
– Contraception – assessment
– Contraception – barrier methods and spermicide
– Contraception – combined hormonal methods
– Contraception – IUS/IUD
– Contraception – natural family planning
– Contraception – progestogen only
– Contraception – sterilization
– Antenatal care – uncomplicated pregnancy (new)
– Boils, carbuncles and staphylococcal carriage
– Knee pain – assessment (new)
– Melanoma and pigmented lesions (new)
– Otitis media with offusion
– Paronychia – acute
– Whitlow (staphylococcal and herpetic)
