Accessing the Lancet

All NHS Athens users can now access The Lancet journal online.  The first time you use this journal there are a few steps you need to complete in order to register with the site and enable you to view the full text articles.  If you are having problems accessing this journal please follow the steps below.

  • Go to the NHS Evidence My Journals website.
    Login using your Athens username and password. (Top right hand corner of the screen)
  • Type “the lancet” into the search box and click search.
  • You will see a list of  links through to various Lancet publications.  Click on the Science Direct Link to access The Lancet.
  • If you are a first time user you will now need to register with the site in order view the full text articles.  To do this:
    • Click on the login option in the top right hand corner of the screen
    • In the drop down box click “Go to Athens/Institutional login
    • On the  next page select “Athens login”
    • Fill out the registration form in full and submit
    • On the confirmation page click continue
    • Select your trust from the list (click remember organisation so that you don’t have to do this again)
  • You will now see the Science Direct homepage, your name will appear on the right hand side confirming you are logged in.
  • Search for The Lancet using the Journal/book title search box. You will see that you can now access full text.

Returning users

  • Click on login in top right hand corner of page
  • Click “Go to Athens login”
  • You should be taken to Science Direct Home page. Your recently visited journals will be listed, or search for the Lancet using the journal/book title.
