Championing the value of health libraries
London’s health libraries and librarians make an impressive contribution to improving the quality of healthcare in London and St. George’s Library is no different.
The library’s Clinical And Research Enquiry Service (CARES) has been highlighted in a portfolio of recently published case studies illustrating how health libraries fulfill their purpose and how they are aligned with the priorities of the NHS, as identified in the Darzi London review.
The case studies, launched in October at a London-wide event, demonstrate the many ways in which libraries make a positive impact on the core business of the NHS. CARES offers a librarian-led search service for time-poor, information hungry staff seeking information to improve their practice or decision-making. Available to all NHS staff in South West London and university staff, service users can request one-off searches, within a designated time frame or a library-managed alert on their topic to keep bang up to date.
