BMJ Best Practice trial from September 30th- December 31st

“Best Practice provides the latest research evidence, guidelines and expert opinion – presented in a step-by-step approach, covering diagnosis, prognosis, treatment and prevention. It provides a second opinion in an instant, without the need for checking multiple resources.” (BMJ)

For a trial period only, NHS Athens users will be able to access BMJ’s Best Practice online from anywhere using their NHS Athens username and password.  Login to MyAthens and click on local resources OR look for Best Practice in St George’s Library’s A-Z list of databases on our website

During December we will run an online survey to gather your feedback on this Point of Care Tool. It would be beneficial if you would compare your use of this Tool with others you may already have had access to such as UptoDate or Clinical Knowledge Summaries (CKS).

University printing service unavailable from 6am Saturday 18th September

There will  be no printing facilities available on the University’s PC’s in the Computer Rooms tomorrow (Saturday 18th September) from 6am until further notice.  This is due to essential maintenance work being carried out on the University’s network printing service.

However, if you have a St George’s NHS Trust login you will be able to print by logging on to one of the 4 NHS network PCs situated in a row to your right as you walk into the first large computer room. (CR3)

We apologise for any inconvenience caused.

Printing in the Library

  • To activate your printing account you must first send something to print.
  • Enter your password when prompted.
  • When you see a message saying you have insufficient funds come to the Helpdesk to put money on your account.
  • You will need to fill out an orange slip saying how much money you want to add and what your username is.
  • You can only top up your printing account at the Library helpdesk. If you are going to be using the computer rooms when we are closed make sure you have topped up your account beforehand.
  • Printing is 5p per page whether double or single sided. The printers default to printing double sided. If you need to print single-sided select from the drop down printer selection menu.

NHS login problem fixed

The technical hitch that meant we were unable to create new NHS logins has now been fixed.

If you are a member of NHS staff and have registered with us in the past week you can now come to the Library Helpdesk to collect a username and password to enable you to use the computers in the Library’s 24 hour computer rooms.

New users (and lapsed members rejoining) please note that it takes time for our system to create a new password for you.  If you require computer access straight away please inform the staff at the desk so that they can ensure you are added to the system as quickly as possible.  Once you are on the system shouldn’t have to wait longer than 45 minutes before you can collect this password.

Login problems

We are currently unable to generate new computer logins for our NHS users.  This is due to a technical fault following some server changes last week.  We are working to resolve the problem but it is unlikely to be fixed before next week.  If you are a new user who has registered with the Library since week commencing 23 August we will be unable to provide you with a login at this time

Existing members with a working login should still be able to log on with their username and password. Please note that currently we will not be able to generate a new one if your Library membership expires or if you forget your password. To avoid your password becoming inactive please ensure your Library membership is up to date.  You can renew your membership by popping into the Library or by calling the Helpdesk on 0208 725 5466

There are 4 NHS networked computers in the Computer rooms, if you have an NHS network username and password you can use these computers too.

Please keep an eye on the blog and/or the website for updates on this problem or ask a member of staff for advice.  We apologise for any inconvenience this technical issue may cause
